I think its clear I love a speakeasy but I also have a fond affection for a good dive bar and that’s exactly what Last Call in Union Market is. DC only has a few of what I would consider true dive bars because everything is just overpriced and each place tries to out do the next. Last Call isn’t trying to do that, starting with the spray painted sign out front to the fact that the walls were not touch, they basically dropped a bar in an old empty space and put up a couple dart boards and said lets open a bar. It can be packed with hipsters so if that’s not your scene just be forewarned. The drinks are cheap with good cheap beer options like Natty Bo and PBR. The also have cocktails that I know some people love like the Aperol Schlitz, you read that right they use Schlitz beer in the cocktail. The old fashioned that is premade is too sweet for me but not horrible for premade. The frozen cocktails are from old southern recipes. Don’t expect food as the choices are chips and redone dips(which are actually pretty tasty) or paninis. You don’t come to a dive bar for the food, you come to have drinks and enjoy the company you came with. Union Market has transformed into a fancy food space but this one stays true to form. Just enjoy a dicey bar for what it is.
